Guy Johnston
and Tom Poster
Guy Johnston was born in 1981 into a family of musicians, and followed his two
elder brothers into the Choir of King's College Cambridge performing with the
choir in major concert halls all over the world. He began cello lessons at the age
of five, and was awarded a scholarship to Chetham's School of Music in 1994.
He was principal cellist in the Tanglewood USA
Young Artists' Orchestra and won a number of
awards, including the Shell/LSO Gerald Macdonald
Prize, the Musicians Benevolent Fund Award,
the Suggia Gift (whose previous recipients have
included Jacqueline Du Pré and Steven Isserlis),
and was the BBC Young Musician for 2000.
Guy is also the winner of the BRIT Award for
Young British Classical Performer 2002.
He broadcasts regularly for BBC Radio 3 and
Classic FM.
Tom Poster was born in 1981 and has just
completed a degree in music at King's College,
Cambridge. In 2000, he won the keyboard
sections of both the Royal Over-Seas League
Annual Music Competition and the BBC Young
Musicians Competition.
He has given numerous recitals and concerto
performances throughout the UK and Ireland as
well as at concert halls in continental Europe and
the Middle East.
