Schonberg, New York Times) and was described by Carol Bergeron of the
Montreal paper "Le Devoir" as "Glenn Gould's only worthy successor".
"Hamelin's wizardry defies the laws of nature, but it is a mark of his seriousness
that he used it only to illuminate the composer's musical intentions." Financial

Olga Dudnik is among the most gifted young pianists in England. Born in
Kharkov, Ukraine in 1973, her outstanding talent from an early age resulted in
enrolment into the Special Music School for Gifted Children. On graduating with
the Gold Medal for excellence she continued her studies at the Rubin Academy of
Music in Tel-Aviv. In 1993 she moved to London for a course in Advanced Solo
Studies at the Guildhall School of Music where, on completion, she was awarded

The Instrumental Quintet of London takes its name from the Quintette
Instrumental de Paris founded in 1922 by Rene le Roy, who persuaded many com-
posers of the time to write works for flute, harp and string trio, thus creating a
whole new repertoire of chamber music. In 1967 Susan Milan, herself one of this
country's finest flautists, founded the Instrumental Quintet of London, and, con-
tinuing in the Le Roy tradition, has commissioned many new works for the group.

At the early age of 22 Romain Guyot was appointed principal clarinet with
l'Orchestre de l'Opéra de Paris and is much in demand as a chamber musician and
as soloist in the major concertos of the repertoire. His partner tonight - Philippe
Cassard - needs no introduction to BMS concert-goers. This is his third appear-
ance in our Celebrity Series which attests to the high regard in which he is held.
"Romain Guyot created a real air of magic...." The Irish Times
"Cassard again displayed the qualities of expressiveness, power and musical feel-
ing which won him the GPA International Piano Competition ..." The Irish

I FAGIOLINI
Presented in association with the Belfast Festival at Queen's
22nd November 1997
Elmwood Hall, Belfast
at 7.30 p.m.
Programme
The first part is of early music by Orlandus Lassus, Ludwig Senfl, Philippe de
Monte, Clement Janequin, Claudio Monteverdi, William Byrd and Thomas
Morley. After the interval an entertaining selection of songs by twentieth-century
composers offers a complete contrast of styles. Adrian Williams, Sir Michael
Tippett, Francis Poulenc, Flanders & Swann, William Brooks and Gustav Holst
are all represented.
I Fagiolini, directed by Robert Hollingworth, is a young and highly-entertaining
solo-voice ensemble whose repertoire covers most western music originally con-
ceived for a group of solo voices. They specialise in Renaissance and early
Baroque music but also commission new works every year.
"One of the best vocal ensembles to emerge in years" Early Music News
