They have a strong commitment to modern British music and have enjoyed working with composers such as Sir William Walton, Sir Michael Tippett and Nicholas Maw. For all but three years of its existence the Coull has been Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Warwick. Born in Kharkov, Ukraine in 1973, her outstanding talent from an early age resulted in enrolment into the Special Music School for Gifted Children. On graduating with the Gold Medal for excellence she continued her studies at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel-Aviv. In 1993 she moved to London for a course in Advanced Solo Studies at the Guildhall School of Music where, on completion, she was awarded the 'Premier Prix'. "....this talent is truly awe-inspiring." In 1967 Susan Milan, herself one of this country's finest flautists, founded the Instrumental Quintet of London, and, con- tinuing in the Le Roy tradition, has commissioned many new works for the group. After the interval an entertaining selection of songs by twentieth-century composers offers a complete contrast of styles. Adrian Williams, Sir Michael Tippett, Francis Poulenc, Flanders & Swann, William Brooks and Gustav Holst are all represented. I Fagiolini, directed by Robert Hollingworth, is a young and highly-entertaining solo-voice ensemble whose repertoire covers most western music originally con- ceived for a group of solo voices. They specialise in Renaissance and early Baroque music but also commission new works every year.
