TONIGHT'S ARTISTS
MARY NELSON - soprano
From Belfast and a former pupil of Carys Denton in Belfast,
Mary is now studying with Mark Wildman at the Royal
Academy of Music in London. Last year she won two major
singing prizes at the RAM and sang in oratorios in London and
Yorkshire. She recently gave a "Music at Ten" recital as part of
the Belfast Festival.
CATHERINE HARPER soprano
Originally from Belfast and a former student of Carys Denton,
Catherine is now studying in the Joint Vocal Faculty of the
Royal Academy and the Royal College of Music in London.
Catherine has studied under Patricia Clarke and Heather Harper
and won a bursary to study last July at the Britten/Pears School
for Advanced Musical Study.
ADELE CARNEY - harp
From Belfast and a former pupil at St Dominic's, Adele played
in the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra and the National Youth
Orchestra of Great Britain. In 1990 she won the Stephen Parker
Memorial Prize and in 1992 achieved first place in 'A' level
Music in Northern Ireland, winning the Incorporated Society of
Musicians Award. Adele is now a student at Cambridge
University.

JOHN MCKERNAN - violin
From Lisburn, John became leader of the City of Belfast Youth
Orchestra for two years and as a member of the National Youth
Orchestra of Great Britain he played in the London Proms and at
several European venues. John is now a final year student at the
Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he
leads his own quartet and has had solo performances with the
Guildhall Orchestra.
GILLIAN MCCUTCHEON - clarinet
Originally from Bangor, Gillian was a pupil of Christopher King
in Belfast and then studied music in Edinburgh and at the Royal
Academy of Music in London. Gillian is now a freelance
musician playing with the Instrumental Ensemble of London and
the Fleurieux Wind Quintet. She has also undertaken many solo
performances in the UK and Europe.
ELIZABETH BICKER -
piano
Last season Elizabeth Bicker celebrated her 25th year in the
music profession and was honoured by the Royal Academy of
Music with an Associateship. Elizabeth is always in demand as
an accompanist and her travels have recently taken her from
Limerick to Brussels. Her concerts with young musicians are
always popular with music societies. Elizabeth is also an
adjudicator for the British Federation of Music Festivals,
providing her with the opportunity to hear young performers
from throughout the UK and Ireland.
