Brazilian-born pianist Arnaldo Cohen has enjoyed an increasingly successful career
which has taken him to the major concert halls throughout Europe. In addition to his
solo appearances, he performs in the Amadeus Piano Trio, and with the Lindsay and
Orlando Quartets. Arnaldo Cohen makes a welcome return to Belfast following a
stunning solo performance in the Elmwood Hall in January 1991.

In a career that includes thousands of concerts and numerous awards, Michala
Petri has delighted and astonished audiences with her virtuosity and musicality
and is widely regarded as the finest recorder player in the world. She is joined by
Lars Hannibal on guitar and lute with a programme ranging from early Baroque
to works written especially for her.

Winner of the First Prize of the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1986,
French violinist Raphael Oleg has earned an impressive reputation both as a
recitalist and as a soloist with Europe's major symphony orchestras. He is joined
by pianist Philippe Cassard, winner of the First Prize at the first GPA International
Piano Competition in 1988.

In April 1988 the Vanbrugh String Quartet became the first British quartet to
win The London International String Quartet Competition, an achievement

Nicholas Daniel and Julius Drake, two of Britain's most talented young musicians,
invite a guest artist to join them for each "Menagerie" concert - a concert that is
presented as an entertainment in which the animal world is the inspiration for this
wonderfully wide range of music and songs. Melanie Armitstead, one of Britain's
finest young mezzo-sopranos, joins the duo for a programme of great variety and
charm.

Piano Trio
The Grieg Piano Trio from Norway were one of the great successes at the 1990
Interforum in Hungary. They have performed widely throughout Europe and
Scandanavia. In February last year the trio won the Parkhouse Award - a newly
established British competition for piano based ensembles - for their sensitivity,
flexibility and above all outstanding talent.
