GRAHAM JOHNSON, the musical director, has
accompanied Peter Pears, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf,
Victoria de los Angeles, Janet Baker, Jessye
Norman, Kiri Te Kanawa, John Shirley-Quirk, and
Felicity Lott. He formed the Songmakers' Almanac
in 1976 to explore neglected areas of vocal music
and to place the staple repertoire of song into new
and challenging contexts.

NANCY ARGENTA, soprano, from Canada.
Studied with Pears and Gerard Souzay. Has sung at
festivals in Bath, Aldeburgh, Vienna and
Aix-en-Provence.
Bohuslav Matousek and Josef Kekula, violinists;
Jan Peruska, viola; Vladimir Leixner, cello.
In 1986 winners of the International String
Quartet competition sponsored by the European
Broadcasting Union.

They will present 'THE TOY CUPBOARD, a collection of childhood and nursery scenes, a treasure trove of
songs, some of which are light-hearted, witty and nostalgic entertainments, others of a serious and thought-
provoking nature. The programme includes songs by Schumann, Ives, Mussorgsky, Satic and Poulenc.
