Op. 52 GRAHAM JOHNSON, the musical director, has accompanied Peter Pears, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Victoria de los Angeles, Janet Baker, Jessye Norman, Kiri Te Kanawa, John Shirley-Quirk, and Felicity Lott. He formed the Songmakers' Almanac in 1976 to explore neglected areas of vocal music and to place the staple repertoire of song into new and challenging contexts. NANCY ARGENTA, soprano, from Canada. Studied with Pears and Gerard Souzay. Has sung at festivals in Bath, Aldeburgh, Vienna and Aix-en-Provence. Bohuslav Matousek and Josef Kekula, violinists; Jan Peruska, viola; Vladimir Leixner, cello. In 1986 winners of the International String Quartet competition sponsored by the European Broadcasting Union. Haydn: Quartet in D minor, Op. 76, No. 2 Jánacek: Quartet No. 2 "Intimate Letters' Schubert: Quartet in D minor, Op. Posth. 'Death and the Maiden' ADRIAN THOMPSON, tenor, has sung at Glyndebourne and with Scottish Opera, and at festivals in Buxton, Aldeburgh, Lausanne and Göttingen. Belfast Music Society They will present 'THE TOY CUPBOARD, a collection of childhood and nursery scenes, a treasure trove of songs, some of which are light-hearted, witty and nostalgic entertainments, others of a serious and thought- provoking nature. The programme includes songs by Schumann, Ives, Mussorgsky, Satic and Poulenc. 1 JANICE WATSON, soprano, winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Award, has sung at Glyndebourne, and the City of London Festival. JAMES MEEK, baritone. won prizes for singing Lieder at the Guildhall. He has sung the title role in Britten's Owen Wingrave" at Aldeburgh and has performed at the Bath Festival.
