The Belfast MUSIC Deciety welcomes you to what must surely be one of the most outstanding series of recitals for several years, bringing to you some of the most sought-after artistes in the world. To give you even greater value if you buy a season tic- ket, we have added an extra recital into the series with- out increasing the price of a season ticket from last year. The cost of a season ticket this year therefore represents a very substantial discount compared to the price of buying individual tickets for each concert, working out at 7 concerts for the price of 4 (even less if you subscribe before the end of July). If you are a full-time student, you can buy a season ticket for as little as £5 - compare that to the cost of going to hear these artistes in Lon- don! As usual, however, tickets for each concert individually are available from the Ulster Orchestra Shop, or at the door. We look forward to your support for our recitals this year and to, hopefully, seeing packed houses in the Elmwood Hall. Finally, we would like to extend our grateful thanks to the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Depart- ment of Music, Queen's University, without whom these recitals would not take place.

The PERFORMERS The Renaissance Singers were formed in 1976 by Ronnie Lee M.B.E. and have given frequent radio and T.V. broad- casts in U.K. and Ireland. As a result of winning the 1984 lished themselves as one of the leading choirs in Britain. Sainsbury's Choir of the Year Competition, they have estab- the present day and is in great demand throughout the world. Cecile Ousset is recognised as one of the foremost pianists of since then, has had an active international concert career that Born in France she gave her first recital at the age of five and has seen her performing on all five continents. The Lindsay String Quartet, now in residence at Manchester University, is firmly established as one of Britain's leading chamber ensembles, and has now become one of the most sought-after quartets in the world. They have a close association with Sir Michael Tippett and are best known for recordings of his works as well as those of Beethoven. Brian Rayner Cooke is a frequent visitor to Belfast, having appeared on numerous occasions with the Ulster Orchestra. An outstanding baritone, his performance in this recital, of the "Songs of Travel" should be one of the highlights of the season. He will be accompanied on this occasion by Roger Vignoles, yet another regular performer here. The Israel Piano Trio is renowned throughout the world as one of today's greatest piano trios. Each player is a soloist in his own right and their future worldwide tours are eagerly awaited by both audiences and critics. Sophie Langdon is one of the most distinguished young vio- linists in this country today. A former member of the well known Trio Zingara, she is presently leader and co-director of the Contemporary Chamber orchestra. She has also per- formed as a soloist all over the world receiving outstanding critical acclaim. Together with Sheelagh Sutherland, her accompanist on this occasion, they "form a powerful and well-integrated vio- lin-piano duo" (The Guardian). Nobuko Imai has appeared in Belfast on several occasions as soloist with the Ulster Orchestra. An outstanding player, she is the only violist to have won the highest prizes in both the Münich and Geneva International Viola Competitions. Janet Hilton, since winning two important competitions at the age of eighteen has built a reputation as one of the finest wind soloists in Britain and has had several pieces specially written for her. This will be her first visit to Northern Ireland. A regular and popular visitor to this Province Anthony Goldstone needs no introduction to Belfast audiences. Distin- guished both as a soloist and an accompanist, he is one of Bri- tain's leading pianists.
