Ocr'd Text:
Despite expected cutbacks, the British Music Society
programme for 1981/82 is, as I am sure you will
agree, a particularly impressive one, but in order to
make this financially viable, we are faced with no
alternative but to raise the subscription rate (which
was not done last year). Now, more than ever before,
the future of the Society depends on your support and
I would urge all those who might think of attending
at least three or four of the concerts to buy a subscrip-
tion ticket. As individual guest tickets now cost £5.00
for the recitals by Shura Cherkassky and Bernadette
Greevy and £3.00 for the others, a subscription ticket
offers you better value while at the same time helping
us to increase the membership. I need hardly emphasise
that with a considerable amount of public money
needed to pay for artists fees and travelling expenses
alone, the continued existence of the Society depends
on a secure membership after all, we do not know
how many people, if any, will buy tickets at the door
for each concert, which makes booking a season such
as this a considerable risk. So please, if you have not
already sent me your subscription, why not do it
particularly students and schoolchildren, for
at only £1.50 for the whole year, you have no excuse
as this is a wonderful concession.
