Ocr'd Text:
Once again the British Music Society presents a series of concerts by outstanding international artists, many of whom are visiting Northern Ireland for the first time. Unfortunately, in order to maintain this high standard of artists, we have found it necessary this year, for financial reasons, to reduce the number of recitals to six, plus the Members Night recital, to be given this year by the up-and-coming Belfast born pianist, BARRY DOUGLAS. Through your continued support, and particularly that of your friends, wel would hope to increase our membership in the coming season in the expectation of being able to re-extend our series for 1981-82. In the meantime, we hope our choice of artists and programmes suits all tastes. We are very pleased to have our season opened this year by the renowned DOLMETSCH ENSEMBLE who specialise in the authentic interpretation of music from the 16th to 18th Centuries and who will be presenting a very wide and varied programme of music from this period. The world famous SMETANA QUARTET needs no further introduction, and we can only say how honoured we are to have them appear in Belfast at long last. ERICH GRUENBERG and IMOGEN COOPER are no strangers to Belfast, the former having made a number of appearances here quite recently with the Ulster Orchestra, now giving a solo recital with his daughter Joanna. IMOGEN COOPER, who appeared at a BMS concert two years ago in the role of accompanist, now returns, by popular demand, to give a solo recital. We are happy to include a guitar recital in our season this year, and we particularly welcome ALIRIO DIAZ, a brilliant pupil of the great Andres Segovia and today one of the greatest exponents of the classical guitar. At the time of going to press, his programme is not available, but will be announced as soon as possible. Our final concert features two artists who, once again, will need no further introduction. THEA KING is now one of the finest clarinettists in the country, and accompanied by CLIFFORD BENSON, this recital should draw the season to a magnificent close. Since individual tickets cost £3.00 per concert, becoming a member offers a considerable reduction, so PLEASE SUBSCRIBE NOW. The newly-introduced student rate has proved very popular and will continue to be available at £1.00 along with a completed student application form. SUBSCRIPTION (for six concerts): ADULT SENIOR CITIZEN STUDENT £12.00 £9.00 £1.00 INDIVIDUAL CONCERTS: £3.00 (no concessions) Please forward all subscriptions and enquiries to: Miss Linda Salem, Secretary B.M.S., 31 Salisbury Gardens, Belfast BT15 5EL.
