Saturday, October 12th 1968 Programme : Clarinet Brahms. Soprano Piano Schubert. RUDOLPH BUCHBINDER Piano Born in 1946 Rudolph Buchbinder made a spectacular debut in Vienna in 1958 and thereafter studied with Bruno Seidlhofer. In 1962 he gave a recital at the Royal Festival Hall and has since performed extensively in Britain, both as soloist and with the Vienna Trio. He represented his country at Expo 67 and won the Bosendorfer Prize in Vienna. He is currently touring Britain and Ireland. Beethoven: Sonata in E flat major, Op. 31 No. 3. Schubert: Sonata in A major, Op. 120. Chopin: Scherzo No. 2 in B flat minor, Op. 31. Schumann: Fantasy in C minor, Op. 17. Debussy: Pour le Piano.

Friday, November 8th 1968 JOSEF SIVO IVAN ERÖD Josef Sivo has an impressive list of achievements dating from 1937, when, at the age of six he started lessons with his father. His teachers include Enesco and his activities range from winning a number of International Prizes to being Professor of Violin at the Vienna Academy and Leader of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra to playing, for example, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and at Salzburg. Both he and Ivan Eröd were born in Budapest and have more recently become Austrian citizens living in Vienna. Programme : Violin Piano Ivan Eröd is not only a noted Concert Pianist and accompanist but also a composer of repute. He graduated from the Vienna Academy at 25 winning the Bosendorfer Prize that year and has since toured extensively throughout Europe. His latest com- position, a comic opera, is soon to be performed in Vienna. Beethoven: Sonata in D major, Op. 12 No. 1. Bartok: Sonata No. 2. Schumann: Second Great Sonata in D minor, Op. 121. Friday, January 31st 1969 THE SMETANA STRING QUARTET JIRO NOVAK Violin LUBOMIR KOSTECKY Violin MILAN SKAMPA Viola ANTONIN KOHOUR 'Cello This Quartet is so well known that little introduction is needed. Members will recollect previous visits but to those who have not heard it live before let us quote from The Gramophone "If you should at any time learn that they are giving a Concert, not a 100 miles away, make the journey, you will be rewarded". Individually the members have strong musical backgrounds, have had brilliant careers, becoming Professors at the Prague Academy by invitation. They joined forces in 1943 and by 1945 were firmly established as a brilliant music making unit. Programme : Haydn: Quartet in C major, Op. 33 No. 3. Martinu: Quartet No. 4. Beethoven: Quartet in F major, Op. 135.

Wednesday, February 12th 1969 SESTETTO CHIGIANO BRENGOLA RICCARDI MEUNIER GUGLIELMO Violins BENVENUTI Violas VENDRAMELLI 'Cellos In 1960 the Quintetto Chigiano gave a B.M.S. Recital and at that time it had taken four years to secure their services. We are even more pleased now than then to have a visit in their new format. The original ensemble was formed in 1939 in Siena and from that time has held master classes in the summer and toured throughout Europe the rest of the year. Obviously with this number of players the choice of music is vast, all ages and kinds of chamber music being possible. Programme : The programme will include the Brahms Sextet in B flat major, Op. 18.

1 Saturday, February 22nd 1969 Tenor JENNIFER PARTRIDGE Piano IAN PARTRIDGE This brilliant young singer (born 1938) is very much to the fore; his name may be seen any day in the Radio Times and his list of engagements is extensive including the main British Festivals and Proms. He currently sings in the Wilbye Consort. lan Partridge was educated at Clifton College and at Oxford and studied under Professor Stefan Pollmann. Some members may have heard his very impressive Evangelist in the St. Matthew Passion, under Dr. Havelock Nelson in March 1967. On this occasion Mr. Partridge will be accompanied by his sister.

Thursday, April 17th 1969 MATTIWILDA DOBBS MARTIN ISEPP Soprano Piano Mattiwilda Dobbs was born in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1947 she won the Marian Anderson Scholarship and later studied in Paris and Madrid. She won 1st Prize in the Geneva International Competition in 1951, and then her international career began. Miss Dobbs visits England regularly to give celebrity recitals, and appears frequently on the BBC as well as on Television. She has appeared at all the major European Opera houses and has toured Central America, Australia, etc. Her most recent recording was that of the Constanze in 'Il Seraglio' in London for EMI under Yehudi Menuhin. Martin Isepp was born in Vienna and emigrated to England in 1938. He studied with Professor Leonie Gombrich, a pupil of Leschetitski, and was later a scholar at Lincoln College Oxford and the Royal Academy of Music in London. After several years with the English Opera Group, he joined the music staff of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. In 1965 he received the Carroll. Donner Stuchell Medal for accompanists, awarded by the Harriet. Cohen International Musical Council.

Saturday, May 3rd 1969. ANNIE FISCHER Piano The best pupil of the 'Franz Liszt Academy of Music' of which she is now Honorary Professor, a pupil of Dohnanyi, many prizes awards much acclaim and vast tours throughout the world all combine to make Annie Fischer one of the best known and most sought after pianists of our time. She was born in Budapest, made her debut when eight with the Beethoven C Major Concerto and four years later moved to the international field where she has remained ever since. This recital will make a brilliant end to the season.
