Ocr'd Text:
THE BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY OF NORTHERN IRELAND
September, 1964
Dear Member,
We are sending with this letter two copies of the brochure
giving details of our series of concerts for the 1964/65 winter
season.
The British Music Society is entirely self-supporting fin-
ancially. The committee has consequently been greatly concerned
about a recent drop in membership, caused by various circum-
stances. We therefore set out to make the coming season one of
particular quality and interest, with as many artists of inter-
national repute as we could engage. To this end we have made
considerable expenditure. I think you will agree that we have
managed to secure a series of artists of a calibre which should
make this the best season we have had for quite some time. All
of the artists are internationally highly rated. We have also
arranged for a most interesting film to be shown after our
Annual General Meeting on 7th October.
For the success of the season and for the continuance of
the B.M.S. on a high level we depend upon a considerable increase
in membership. It is for this reason that we send you a second
brochure. We ask you to give this to friends and strongly urge
them to join. We ask each B.M.S. member to bring at least one
new member. If you will do this, membership can be increased
to a level which will enable the society to continue to present
concerts of the highest standards.
By bringing new members you will give a vital service to
the British Music Society and, we trust, much enjoyment to your
friends. We feel we may depend upon you, our members, to do
this.
In planning the concerts we have carefully considered
suggestions and requests received from members. As a result
we have decided to vary the night of the week on which the
concerts are held, hoping that this will make it easier for people
to come to the whole series.
We do hope that you will enjoy our season of concerts.
Yours sincerely,
WILLIAM YOUNG
President
