Ocr'd Text:
THE COMMITTEE is pleased to announce its programme
for the coming season. Details of the artists engaged
will be found in the following pages, with, in some cases,
an indication of the programmes they will perform. Fuller
details of the programmes will be published later when this
information is available.
It will be seen that six recitals and two lectures will
be given, and as usual the season will open with the
members' Annual Reunion. Members of the Society are
again privileged to borrow scores from the Chester Music
Library.
The Society wishes to encourage the enrolment of new
members. The recitals are again to be given in the Sir
William Whitla Hall under the auspices of Queen's
University, and we are fortunate in having ample room to
accommodate a large increase in membership. Once again
we would emphasise that the number and quality of our
recitals is controlled by our membership. The recent
increase in members made it possible for us to give an
additional recital last year and again this season, and
present members are therefore asked to bring this
prospectus to the notice of their friends.
The recitals will begin at 7.45 p.m., and admission will
be given only on production of membership cards or guest
tickets. A memorandum on the issue of guest tickets will
appear later.
The Annual Subscription remains at 30/- and is
payable at Messrs. Hart & Churchill, Ltd., 20 Wellington
Place, Belfast. Correspondence, applications for member-
ship and any enquiries should be made to the Hon.
Secretaries at this address. Special terms are available
for Schools and Technical Colleges.

(Date to be announced)
MEMBERS' NIGHT
A programme will be provided by members of the
Society. It is hoped again to secure the use of the Smyth
Hall, by kind permission of the Session of Great Victoria
Street Presbyterian Church, on a date to be announced
later.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31st, 1952
THE MARTIN STRING QUARTET
One of the younger English Quartets, this ensemble
has been frequently heard in broadcasts by the B.B.C., and
enjoys a growing reputation. We await its first visi
to Belfast with interest.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 11th, 1952
AN ILLUSTRATED LECTURE
This will be given by Dr. Havelock Nelson, in the
Board Room, Church House, Fisherwick Place, Belfast, on
works to be performed by the Rubbra-Gruenberg-Pleeth
Trio.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14th, 1952
THE RUBBRA-GRUENBERG-PLEETH TRIO
The names of the artists comprising this ensemble
need no introduction; they are internationally recognised
as soloists.
Mr. Rubbra is, as well as pianist, a most
distinguished composer, and it is hoped that the programme
will include one of his Trios.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5th, 1952
WILHELM KEMPFF
This outstanding pianist makes a very welcome return
to our recitals. Those who heard his performance last year
will recall his most musicianly approach, which, allied to
a secure technique, made this a memorable event.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 20th, 1953
A LECTURE
To be given in the Board Room, Church House, by
Professor Ivor Keys, on works to be performed by the Boyd
Neel Chamber Group.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 23rd, 1953
THE F. W. LEONARD MEMORIAL RECITAL
To be given in honour of the late Fred Leonard by an
Octet of the Boyd Neel Orchestra. The programme will
consist of the great Octet by Schubert and the lovely Octet
by Howard Ferguson. The opportunities of hearing live
Octet performances are rare, and it is hoped that this will
be a notable event in the Society's history.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27th, 1953
MAURICE EISENBERG AND IVOR KEYS
Those who heard the recital at Queen's University by
these two artists in the spring will agree that we have
been fortunate in securing their services for the Society.
Maurice Eisenberg is hailed as successor to Casals, both
as musician and 'cellist, and he has said that he cannot
think of a better pianist than Ivor Keys.

SATURDAY, MARCH 14th, 1953
DIETRICH FISCHER-DIESKAU
This thirty year old artist is probably the singer of
most outstanding promise of those who have come to the
fore in Europe since the end of the war. He has been heard
in the B.B.C's Third Programme, and has made some very
fine recordings, notably of Schubert's "Winterreise."
THE CHESTER MUSIC LIBRARY
This library is one of the most comprehensive
collections of music in the British Isles, open to subscribers.
It consists mainly of modern music of all countries,
covering a period from about Brahms to the present day.
The Chamber Music Section includes the Classics as well as
modern works. The Library is divided into the following
sections:
Piano Music, Piano Scores, Vocal Scores,
Songs, Chamber Music, Instrumental pieces.
New works are constantly being added, and it is not,
therefore, possible to issue a catalogue. Every effort is
made to ensure that all modern works of importance are
available. Please note that the library does not contain
miniature scores.
The Society subscribes to this library for the con-
venience of its members, and any members who wish to
borrow music (for which no charge is made) should leave
a note of their requirements with Messrs. Hart & Churchill,
Ltd., 20 Wellington Place, Belfast.
