HE COMMITTEE has pleasure in announcing that it is
in a position to offer its members six concerts for the
coming season as against five last year. Such details of the
proposed concerts as are available at the time of going to
press are set out in this prospectus. A full list of the works
to be performed will be published in a separate leaflet as
soon as possible. It will be seen that our programme for
this season contains the names of some outstanding British
artists (and one newcomer to our concert platform), and
some of the leading continental performers. A members'
night, and lectures preparatory to some of the concerts, will
also be arranged. As a further privilege of membership,
the Society has continued the arrangement with the Chester
Music Library, by which members may borrow, without
charge, from this most comprehensive library of Vocal,
Instrumental, and Chamber Music. Further details will be
found in the following pages.
For some years the Society, through uncertainty as to
accommodation, has had to keep careful watch on the
numbers of its members. Under the arrangement whereby
our recitals are given in the Sir William Whitla Hall, under
the auspices of Queen's University, it has been found that
we have ample room for expansion. Members of the public
are assured that they will be heartily welcomed to member-
ship. The Annual Subscription is 30/-, and is payable on
and after September 10, 1951, at Messrs. Hart & Churchill,
Ltd., 20 Wellington Place, Belfast, to whom intending new
members should apply.
The number and quality of the concerts we can give is
dependent on the size of our membership. Existing
members are asked to do all in their power to increase our
numbers by bringing this prospectus to the notice of their
friends.
Admission to the Society's recitals and lectures will
be by membership card only, which must be shown at the
door. All recitals will commence at 7.30, and members
are asked to be in their seats by 7.25, as the doors will be
closed until the conclusion of the first item.
All correspondence, membership applications, and
payment of subscriptions, should be addressed to the Hon.
Secretaries, or Hon. Treasurer of the Society, c/o. Messrs.
Hart & Churchill, Ltd., 20 Wellington Place, Belfast.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 22nd, 1951.
MEMBERS' NIGHT
The Society's Annual Reunion, at which a programme
of music will be given, followed by tea at nine o'clock.
Smyth Memorial Hall, Lisburn Road (corner of Fountain-
ville Avenue).
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd, 1951.
WILHELM KEMPFF
(piano)
Of the major European pianists of senior standing,
the name of Wilhelm Kempff is perhaps least known in
England, where he made his first personal appearance only
two years ago. His reputation on the continent as an
interpreter of Bach and Beethoven is very high. We are
fortunate in being able to offer our members an oppor-
tunity of hearing this artist on the occasion of his brief
forthcoming visit to the British Isles.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 3rd, 1951.
A LECTURE
on works to be performed by the Amadeus Quartet.
Further details to be announced.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7th, 1951.
AMADEUS STRING QUARTET
and
CECIL ARONOWITZ
(viola)
Members of the Society will not have forgotten the
favourable impression made by these players when they
visited us two years ago with Frederick Thurston. This
time they bring with them an extra viola player with whom
they are accustomed to combine. This will give us an
opportunity of hearing some of the rich repertoire of music
written for String Quintet.

THE GOLDEN AGE SINGERS
This combination is composed of Margaret Field-Hyde
(soprano), Eileen McLoughlin (soprano), Alfred Deller
(counter tenor), Rene Soames (tenor), and Gordon Clinton
(baritone), each of whom has a distinguished standing as
soloist. It is now some years since we have had a group
of madrigal singers. The reputation of these artists
should ensure a very high standard in this exquisite art.
The programme will consist of madrigals and folk songs,
both English and continental.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8th, 1952.
KATHLEEN FERRIER
(contralto)
GERALD MOORE
(piano)
Kathleen Ferrier has sung for us twice before. Her
art has been manifestly developing, and she now occupies
a foremost place among European singers. Gerald Moore
is one of our oldest friends; as an accompanist, especially
of Lieder, he is incomparable.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29th, 1952.
SHEILA RANDELL
(piano)
We feel it to be our duty to give encouragement to
younger artists who have not yet had time to make their
name with the public. Miss Randell's promise is such that
we have high hopes of seeing her in later years in the
front rank of pianists.

A LECTURE
on works to be performed by the Quatuor Haydn. Further
details to be announced.
FRIDAY, MARCH 21st, 1952.
THE QUATUOR HAYDN
This is a distinguished Belgian String Quartet who
have broadcast on several occasions in England. We are
to hear them in a programme which will contain one of
Beethoven's quartets of Op.18. We have recently had
several opportunities of hearing his mature and later
works. An opportunity of hearing this charming example
of his early style is therefore to be welcomed.
THE CHESTER MUSIC LIBRARY
This library is one of the most comprehensive
collections of music in the British Isles, open to subscribers.
It consists mainly of modern music of all countries, covering
a period from about Brahms to the present day.
The Chamber Music Section includes the Classics as
well as modern works. The Library is divided into the
following sections:
Piano Music, Piano Scores, Vocal Scores,
Songs, Chamber Music, Instrumental pieces.
New works are constantly being added, and it is not,
therefore, possible to issue a catalogue. Every effort is
made to ensure that all modern works of importance are
available. Please note that the library does NOT contain
miniature scores.
The Society subscribes to this library for the con-
venience of its members, and any members who wish to
borrow music (for which no charge is made) should leave
a note of their requirements with Messrs. Hart & Churchill,
Ltd., 20 Wellington Place, Belfast.
