The Committee feels that it may take some pride in the
programme which has been arranged for the 1950-51 season.
Five recitals will be given, by artists of international repute;
the season will open with a Members' Night, which has proved
in past years an enjoyable social and musical occasion, and
two illustrated lectures will be given by eminent musicians on
works to be performed. In à addition, the Society has arranged,
in association with C.E.M.A. (Northern Ireland), an impor-
tant recital to be given during the 1951 Festival of Britain.
This will be
be a concert, and will not form part of the
winter series.
As a further privilege of membership, the
Society has now arranged with the Chester Music Library
that members may borrow, without charge to themselves, from
this most comprehensive Library of Vocal, Instrumental, and
Chamber Music. Full details will be found in the following
pages.
public
The Committee is happy to announce that in collaboration
with the Queen's University of Belfast the five recitals will be
held in the Sir William Whitla Hall of the University, a
concert hall second to none in the country. Under this
arrangement, students and staff of the University can attend
the recitals, and though the Hall has a large capacity,
accommodation is not unlimited. We shall welcome intending
new members, but would urge them to send in their names
without delay, as admissions to membership will be made in
order of application.
The annual subscription is 30/-, and is payable on and
after Tuesday, 3rd October, to Messrs. Hart & Churchill Ltd.,
20 Wellington Place, Belfast. Intending new members should
send their names and addresses to the Hon. Secretary, c/o
Messrs. Hart & Churchill Ltd., and they will be notified of
their election to membership, after which the subscription will
be payable.
Admission to the Society's recitals and lectures will be
by membership card only, which must be shown at the door.
All recitals will commence at 7.30, and members are asked to
be in their seats by 7.25, as the doors will be closed until the
conclusion of the first item.
All correspondence, membership applications, and pay-
ment of subscriptions should be addressed to the Hon.
Secretary (or Treasurer) of the Society, c/o Messrs. Hart.
& Churchill Ltd., 20 Wellington Place, Belfast.

The collaboration of MM. Bernac and Poulenc is one of
the great musical partnerships of our time. The interpretative
genius of singer and pianist shows the art of song in its finest
perfection.

Sylphe, Warnung. Five songs by Schubert: Lied der Mignon,

Gretchen am Spinnrade. Six songs by Brahms: Schwesterlein,
Die Trauernde, Schwabisches Volkslied, In stille Nacht, Feins-
liebchen, Vergebliches Ständchen.
Irmgard Seefried has been a leading singer of the Vienna
State Opera since 1942. She was first heard in London in
1947, with the Vienna State Opera Company, and was
acclaimed for her singing in "Figaro" and "Cosi fan Tutte".
Her Lieder recitals at the Wigmore Hall showed further that
she is an artist of the very front rank. Her gramophone record-
ings alone are sufficient to arouse the highest expectations.
It is a particular pleasure to us that Mme. Seefried has
asked for Frederick Stone as her accompanist. His playing
is well known and appreciated here, and on his first public
appearance in Belfast since the war he will be sure of a warm
welcome.
