I would like to confirm the arrangement we agreed on the telephone this
afternoon for the three British Music Society concerts in the Festival,
on 14, 21 and 28 June 1980 - the first two of these being in the Guildhall
and the third in St Michael le Belfrey. The arrangement is that the
British Music Society be responsible for all artists' fees and expenses, the
costs incurred for the hire of the Guildhall and a donation to St Michael's.
and the cost of printing tickets. The Festival undertakes to guarantee the
British Music Society against loss up to a figure of £750. In the event of
income exceeding expenditure, so that this guarantee is not required, the
British Music Society will take the profit.
For administrative reasons we must be responsible for the ticket printing
itself and will pass the costs on to you. In this regard we need to have
the information you would like included on the tickets by November 10.
Numbers of tickets to be printed, ticket prices and division of prices can
be a matter for discussion, preferably before this date! Our main
publicity brochure will also be going to the printers pretty soon so we
would be grateful for full details of your concerts such as you would wish
to appear in the brochure by the same date. If you have any problems about
gathering information together so soon - and I appreciate that we are not
giving you very much notice! - do please ring me and we will of course be
as accommodating as we can.

A cheque for £805 was sent to you on 2 July and was acknowledged
by you on 7 July. The cheque was based upon your letter to
Mr Fox dated 2 November 1979 in which the fee was stated to be

I have only this morning received your invoices dated 26 June
which had been sent to the York Festival offices. These show
that there is no VAT for Miss Partridge. We have therefore
paid to you £18.75 too much and I would be most grateful if
