NEXT EVENT THURSDAY EVENING, 24th OCTOBER, AT 7-30 IN THE TEMPEST ANDERSON HALL PIANOFORTE RECITAL BY DENIS MATTHEWS THE YORKSHIRE PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY Members' Privileges. 1. To attend all meetings of the Society, and to vote thereat ; to present papers and to take part in scientific discussions. 2. To receive a copy of the Society's Annual Report and Proceedings. 3. Personal admission to the Gardens, and free admission also for the members of their families residing with them, and inmates of their households. (The Grounds cover upwards of ten acres, and contain :- 1. The Hospital of St. Leonard. ii. A portion of the stone wall built by the Romans to enclose Eboracum (York). iii. The Roman Multangular Tower. iv. The Yorkshire Museum, built in 1829. v. The Ruins of the Benedictine Monastery of St. Mary. vi. The Gatehouse of the Abbey, now a private residence. vii. The Hospitium (believed to have been the "Guest House") of the Abbey, now a Museum of Roman Antiquities. viii. The Water Gate of the Abbey. ix. The fortified Wall, which surrounded the Abbey pre- cincts, built by the Abbot, Simon de Warwick, in 1265. 4. Members may personally introduce not more than three friends on any one day, and have the further privilege of ad- mitting 25 friends during each calendar year by written order, on Official Order Forms. 5. Use of the Library and Reading Room. The Library contains nearly 12,000 volumes, and the leading Geological, Natural History, and Archaeological serials. 6.
