Th SUBSCRIPTIONS Full Members £4.50 Junior Members (under 18) and Students £2.25 All concerts will be held at the Tempest Anderson Hall, Yorkshire Museum, Museum Gardens, York. Concerts are open to non-members on payment of £1 per seat per Concert (Junior Members (under 18) and Students 50p). Tickets for individual concerts are available from "Sound Effect", Davygate, York, or at the Hall on the night of the concert. Seats are not normally reserved, the only reservations being for officials of the Society on duty, Press Reporters, and for mem- bers of the Society who, by reason of age or infirmity, require special service. Doors will be open at 7-00 for 7-30 p.m. Cars should not be brought into the Museum Gardens except in special cases by arrangement with the Secretary. Parking facili- ties are, however, available in Marygate. Subscriptions are now due and should be sent to the Hon. Treasurer in the enclosed envelope which does not require a stamp. Existing members will find their tickets enclosed with this brochure. Tickets for new members will be sent to them on receipt of their subscriptions. Thursday, 16th November, 1978 татя FELICITY PALMER (Soprano) and JOHN CONSTABLE (Piano) Felicity Palmer won the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Scholarship in 1970 and has since sung all over the world including engage- ments with the major orchestras and in several operas. She has made a number of recordings and those of 20th century; French songs by Messiaen, Poulenc, Ravel and Fauré have received con- siderable acclaim. John Constable won a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music and after studying in Italy joined the musical staff of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He has subsequently accompanied many distinguished singers and instrumentalists and made many records, specializing particularly in contemporary music. The Society is indebted to the Arts Council of Great Britain, Contemporary Music Network, for this concert. Since then he has performed widely in the British Isles, has given a number of radio and TV recitals and has toured extensively in Europe, America and other parts of the world. Thursday, 18th January, 1979 THE COULL STRING QUARTET _ ROGER COULL (Violin) -1971 zhsq PHILIP GALLAWAY (Violin) MARTIN THOMAS (Viola) DAVID CURTIS ('Cello) This quartet was formed in 1974 by students at the Royal Academy coached by Sidney Griller. All four members have won prizes individually and as a quartet and on leaving the Academy were given a Leverhulme Chamber Music Award. They have given a number of concerts in London and have broadcast on Capital Radio and with the B.B.C. In October, 1977, they took up the post of Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Warwick. Thursday, 15th February, 1979 PAUL COKER (Piano) In 1977 Paul Coker won a foundation scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London. He gave his first public performance at the age of six and had the facility of improvisation at an early age. At nine he attended the Yehudi Menuhin School and was there for eight years, during which he studied with a number of distinguished teachers. In July, 1976, he was one of the Menuhin pupils to take part in the American bi-centennial celebrations at the British Embassy, Washington, and he has also played in Menuhin Festivals in Europe. In 1977 he won the Simon Eyre Award, and more recently was joint winner of the Piano Section of the B.B.C. Young Musician of the Year Competition and first prize winner of the 1978 National Federation of Music Societies Award for Young Concert Artists. Thursday, 8th MARCH, 1979 sendT SUSAN TUNNELL (Violin) and JOHN TUNNELL (Piano) (9) JUA This brother and sister combination have been playing together since their school days as a duo, with their younger brother Charles as a trio and with their cousin Brian Hawkins as a piano quartet. John Tunnell won an open scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where his professor was Frederick Grinke. He won an Austrian Government award to study in Vienna and after his return the duo was formed. Susan won an open scholarship to the Royal Manchester College of Music where she studied under Gordon Green and won the much coveted Dayas Gold Medal for the best student of the year.
