The Society also receives support from the Yorkshire Arts Association and York District Council.

SUBSCRIPTIONS Full Members £4.50 Junior Members (under 18) and Students £2.25 All Concerts will be held at the Tempest Anderson Hall, Yorkshire Museum, Museum Gardens, York. Concerts are open to non-members on payment of £1 per seat per Concert (Junior Members (under 18) and Students 50p). Tickets for individual concerts are available from "Sound Effects", King's Square, York or at the Hall on the night of the concert. Seats are not normally reserved, the only reservations being for officials of the Society on duty, Press Reporters, and for mem- bers of the Society who, by reason of age or infirmity, require special service. Doors will be open at 7-00 for 7-30 p.m. Cars should not be brought into the Museum Gardens except in special cases by arrangement with the Secretary. Parking facili- ties, are however, available in Marygate. Subscriptions are now due and should be sent to the Hon. Treasurer in the enclosed envelope which does not require a stamp. Existing members will find their tickets enclosed with this brochure. Tickets for new members will be sent to them on receipt of their subscriptions. Thursday, 20th October, 1977 THE NEW BUDAPEST QUARTET ANDRAS KISS (Violin) GYGORGY ALBERT (Violin) TIVADARD POPA (Viola) TAMA KOO ('Cello) This Quartet, formed in 1970, won the Third Prize in the Haydn Competition in Vienna in 1971 and subsequently the first prize in a Competition in Rome. They first visited the Society in Novem- ber, 1974 and in the following year, at comparatively short notice, took the place of a French Quartet who had cancelled their engagement with the Society. They are making a welcome re- appearance in this season's programme. It has pioneered the performance of brass chamber music in England and abroad, and has made numerous recordings. Thursday, 8th December, 1977 RUTH NYE (Piano) Ruth Nye began her career in her native Australia at the age of 12 and subsequently studied with Claudio Arrau. In 1967 she played four Beethoven Concertos with Sir Malcolm Sargent, and in 1970 gave concerts in Germany and broadcast on West German Radio. She has subsequently broadcast for the BBC and recently gave her sixth Queen Elizabeth Hall Recital. Thursday, 12th January, 1978 THE RICHARDS PIANO QUARTET NONA LIDDELL (Violin) JEAN STEWART (Viola) BERNARD RICHARDS ('Cello) BERNARD ROBERTS (Piano) The members of the Richards Piano Quartet are all distinguished chamber music performers. Nona Liddell is well know as the leader of the English String Quartet and has frequently broad- cast and appeared on television. Jean Stewart has made frequent broadcasts and has had works written for her by Vaughan Williams and Anthony Hopkins. Bernard Richards is a Professor of Music at the Guildhall School of Music and while he was a student toured as a member of the International String Quartet. Bernard Roberts studied with Eric Harrison, has given very many concerts and broadcasts including all the 32 Piano Sonatas of Beethoven and is a Professor at the Royal College of Music. The Players were formed in 1974 for the performance of 17th and 18th century chamber music and since then have played to capacity audiences on the South Bank and at St. John's Smiths Square. Thursday, 16th March, 1978 ANNE SHASBY & RICHARD MCMAHON (Piano Duet) Anne Shasby and Richard McMahon met as students of Gordon Green at the Royal Academy. They first played together in 1969 and have since established themselves as the leading young duo in Great Britain. They have given many concerts and are frequent broadcasters on BBC Radio 3; more recently performing at the 'Proms' and on BBC 2. They have dedicated themselves to playing the little known and neglected repertoire for two pianists at one or two pianos.
