The Society also receives support from York Corporation and from the Goethe Institute.

SUBSCRIPTIONS Full Members £2.50 Junior Members (under 18) and Students £1.25 All Concerts will be held at the Tempest Anderson Hall, Yorkshire Museum, Museum Gardens, York. Concerts are open to non-members on payment of 75p per seat per Concert. There is no booking of seats before Concerts, the only reser- vations being for Officials of the Society on duty, Press Reporters, and for members of the Society who, by reason of age or infirmity, require special service. Doors will open at 7-00 for 7-30 p.m. Cars should not be brought into the Museum Gardens except in special cases by arrangement with the Secretary. Adequate parking facilities are, however, available in the Corporation Car Park at the corner of Lendal and Museum Street and in Marygate. Subscriptions are now due and should be sent to the Hon. Treasurer in the enclosed envelope which does not require a stamp. Existing members will find their tickets enclosed with this brochure. Thursday, 8th November, 1973 THE PASQUINI TRIO JOHN TREHERNE (Harpsichord) ANNA BONNIKSEN (Recorders) PETER HARRISON (Flutes and Recorders) This Trio, formed in 1969, had their first Wigmore Hall appear- ance in May, 1973. Although formed to specialise in Baroque Music, the Trio have developed as a contrast a large repertoire of Medieval, Elizbethan and Modern Music and specialise in passing on to their audiences their enthusiasm for the music and for the original authentic sound of the period concerned. Thursday, 6th December, 1973 ttl THE ALBERNI QUARTET HOWARD DAVIS (Violin) PETER POPLE (Violin) BERIAN EVANS (Viola) GREGORY BARON (Cello) with ALLAN SCHILLER (Piano) The Alberni Quartet was formed in 1961 and since 1963 has been the resident string quartet in Harlow New Town and is now also resident quartet at the University of Western Australia after two very successful tours in the Antipodes. The members of the Quartet are no strangers to York audiences, having been to the B.M.S. and the Festival on several occasions. Allan Schiller, who made his debut at the age of 10 with the Halle Orchestra under the late Sir John Barbirolli, is also making a welcome return visit. He has performed with all the major British Orchestras and has broadcast frequently. In 1968 he was invited to take the place of Schostakovitch, who was indisposed, at the Aldeburgh Festival, and also returned there the following year. Thursday, 17th January, 1974 TRITON SASHA ABRAMS (Soprano) DAN KLEIN (Tenor) PETER ALEXANDER (Piano) Sasha Abrams and her husband, Peter Alexander, studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music where both won scholarships, and they have since made numerous appearances both separately and together, she at the Glyndebourne and the Phoenix Opera and he with the B.B.C., and they gave the first performance together of a song-cycle specially written for them by Richard Rodney Bennett. Dan Klein, who is the originator of the programmes for Triton, has performed with Sadler's Wells, with the English Opera Group, and has also given solo recitals and broadcasts in many other parts of the world. "We were much amused" is a touching account in words and music of how much music meant to Victoria and Albert. e 3, y d I y 1, S Thursday, 14th February, 1974 BRIAN HAWKINS (Viola) JOHN CONSTABLE (Piano) Brian Hawkins, a former York resident, was principal viola and founder member of the London Sinfonietta and Professor of Viola and of Chamber Music at the Royal College of Music, where he was awarded the Silver Medal of the Most Worshipful Company of Musicians. He now plays with several groups of instrumentalists and makes numerous broadcasts and records. John Constable won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where he studied with Harold Craxton. After a period of studying in Italy he went to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and has since accompanied many leading singers and instrumentalists and has made many recordings and travelled extensively in Europe. He is also with the London Sinfonietta, where he is their principal keyboard player. Thursday, 14th March, 1973 THE MELOS QUARTET OF STUTTGART WILHELM MELCHER (Violin) GERHARD VOSS (Violin) HERMANN VOSS (Viola) PETER BUCK (Cello) The Melos Quartet, now acclaimed as the finest of the younger generation of German Quartets, first met in 1965. They gave their first public Concert in January, 1966, and in the same year won the International Competition in Geneva and have since toured all over the world. They have made a number of recordings including the complete String Quartets of Beethoven, and in 1970 they had the great honour of being invited to give the Bi-centenary Concert in Beethoven's own house in Bonn. Their first appearance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London will be on the 8th January, 1974, and they are shortly to embark on a series of recordings for the B.B.C. of the complete works of Schubert and Bartok.
