SUBSCRIPTIONS Full Members, 40/- Junior Members (under 18) and Students, 20/- All Concerts will be held at the Tempest Anderson Hall. Concerts are open to non-members on payment of 10/- per seat per Concert. There is no booking of seats before Concerts, the only reservations being for Officials of the Society on Duty, Press Reporters, and for Members of the Society who, by reason of age or infirmity, require special service. Doors will open at 7.0 for 7.30 p.m. Cars should not be brought into the Museum Gardens except in special cases by arrangement with the Secretary. Adequate parking facilities are, however, available in the Corporation Car Park at the corner of Lendal and Museum Street and in Marygate. Subscriptions are now due and should be sent to the Hon. They studied under Sidney Griller and have since the Autumn of 1967 been resident at Keele University. In October, 1969, the Quartet was one of the finalists in the International Quartet Competition at Liege, Belgium. Thursday, 26th November, 1970 SOO-BEE LEE (Soprano) JOAN HUGHES (Piano) Soo-Bee Lee came to England from Singapore in 1955. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music and has appeared at Wexford, Glyndebourne, Bath and Chichester with Opera Piccola, Phoenix Opera and Sadlers Wells and on one of the visits of the Phoenix Opera she came to York as Susanna in 'The Marriage of Figaro'. She has made a number of broad- casts and television appearances. Joan Hughes also studied at the Royal Academy where she won many awards including a prize for accompaniment awarded by Gerald Moore, and has also worked with Pierre Bernac. Thursday, 10th December, 1970 JOHN ARRAN (Guitar) John Arran studied the guitar with Terry Usher and Gordon Crosskey at the Royal Manchester College for Music, and Hector Quine, of the Royal Academy. He was the first student to obtain a diploma for guitar from the Royal Manchester College of Music. His London solo debut was at St. Martin. in-the-Fields in April, 1967, and since that date he has recorded and broadcast for B.B.C. radio and television. Thursday, 14th January, 1971 ANNE QUEFFELEC (Piano) Born in Paris in 1948, Anne Queffelec went to the Paris Conservatoire at the age of 16, where she obtained a number of prizes, and while still at the Conservatoire studied in master-classes with Paul Badura-Skoda, Joerg Demus and Alfred Brendel. She has toured extensively in Europe and will be remembered here for her success at the Leeds Piano Festival. Her London debut was in March, 1970. Thursday, 25th February, 1971 RICHARD MARKSON ('Cello) ROGER GREEN (Piano) Richard Markson is 20 years old. He began studying the 'Cello with Joan Dickson, and at the age of 12 went to Paris where he spent six years studying under Paul Tortelier. Since leaving Paris has had lessons with Leonard Rose, and Pierre Fournier. He has given numerous successful recitals in this country and has also visited Israel and Switzerland. Roger Green, born in 1945, has studied with Peter Katin and Paul Badura-Skoda amongst others and obtained first- class honours at Queens College, Oxford, where he read Music from 1963 to 1966. He has given a number of successful concerts as soloist in this country. Thursday, 18th March, 1971 unit SEBESTYEN STRING QUARTET ERNO SEBESTYEN (Violin) TAMAS SZABO (Violin) GABOR FIAS (Viola) JANOS DEVICH ('Cello) ия The Sebestyen String Quartet was founded in Budapest in 1966, and in that year won a special diploma at the Geneva International Competition. They have made a number of appearances in their own country on the concert platform and on radio and television and have also toured extensively throughout Europe. In September, 1969, members of the Quartet competed successfully in the Munich International Music Contest for string trio where they won the first prize. This tour will mark their debut in Great Britain.
